New District Map: Last Chance to Comment

On April 11, the county commissioners approved a new county district map. As with previous maps, the new one divides the urban core into three different districts mixed with rural county areas. Many local Democrats preferred a map that created an urban district, but the commissioners chose to preserve the historical precedent of dividing the urban core.

We have one additional opportunity for public comments at a meeting on Monday, April 25. There will be an open house at 4:30 p.m., and a 5:30 p.m. meeting at which residents can offer public comments. The 5:30 p.m. meeting will be both in-person at 314 W. Main, 2nd Floor, and virtual (the meeting link is in the meeting agenda). If you cannot attend the meeting, please email your comments to the commissioners at wwcocommissioners@co.walla-walla.wa.us.

The new map, an enlarged cities version, and an explanation of district changes are available on the county website.
