Update for WWCDCC and WW Democrats
A strong contingent of Democrats from the 16th Legislative District is participating in the 2022 Washington State Democratic Convention. Nine people from Walla Walla are in Tacoma, and a number of others representing both Benton and Walla Walla counties are participating virtually. The 1000 people representing the 39 legislative districts in the state of Washington are diverse - it is a great group of people defending Democracy.
As you can imagine, the opening statements this morning are about the recent shocking decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade. The theme is affirmation of the Party's commitment to each person's full autonomy and control over their own bodies and lives, and maintaining access to the full range of reproductive health care for women, including abortion. It is legal in the State of Washington, and the Party will work hard to preserve this right.
Speakers so far are 6th Congressional District Congressman Derek Kilmer, Washington State High School Democrats chair Waylon Menzia, and Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison. Very inspiring!
Tina Podlodowski was just elected by proclamation as Permanent Chair of the Convention. She retains her position as Chair of the party through 2024. We are fortunate to have TIna in both positions.
We must re-elect Patty Murray to the US Senate! We must elect Natasha Hill to represent the 5th Congressional District! We must elect Democrats to represent the 16th in the Washington State Legislature - Jan Corn and Jeff Strickler! All of these excellent candidates have been endorsed by the Walla Walla County Democratic party.
Next up is the adoption of the Party platform, and consideration of resolutions.
More later!
