Harris V Trump: On the Issues

Harris V Trump

Law & Order

Before becoming a U.S. Senator and then vice president, Kamala Harris served as a courtroom prosecutor, District Attorney of San Francisco, and the Attorney General of California. “In those roles, I took on perpetrators of all kinds: predators who abused women, fraudsters who ripped off consumers, cheaters who broke the rules for their own gain. So hear me when I say I know Donald Trump’s type.”
While attorney general, Harris took on one of our country’s largest for-profit colleges that was scamming students. “Donald Trump ran a for-profit college that scammed students,” she added. The college was Trump University.

As a prosecutor, I specialized in cases involving sexual abuse. Trump was found liable for committing sexual abuse.”
“I took on the big Wall Street banks and held them accountable for fraud,” she said. “Donald Trump was just found guilty of fraud on 34 counts.
— HARRIS

Trump is the only former President to be convicted of a felony. He will be sentenced on 34 counts on September 18. He awaits three other criminal trials.
— TRUMP

Justice & Equality

Harris seeks to strengthen criminal justice reform, police accountability, and equal rights for all citizens, particularly marginalized communities.
— HARRIS

Trump has frequently spoken of his desire to prosecute his political enemies and release his supporters, including those who have been convicted of felonies committed at the January 6 coup attempt.
— TRUMP

Economic Opportunity

Harris supports working families, including raising the minimum wage, and affordable housing. Reduce the wealth gap by increasing taxes on billionaires and decreasing taxes on middle-income earners.
— HARRIS

Trump promises to further cut taxes for billionaires and corporations. This will necessitate increasing taxes on middle-income earners and the poor. It will expand the wealth gap. Trump also supports increasing tariffs on foreign-produced goods. This will increase inflation and the cost of living.
— TRUMP

Healthcare

Harris wants to provide access to affordable and quality healthcare for all Americans, protecting and expanding the Affordable Care Act.
— HARRIS

Trump promises to revoke the Affordable Care Act, leaving over 45 million people without health insurance.
— TRUMP

Climate Change

Harris supports climate change mitigations through green energy initiatives, reducing carbon emissions, and promoting sustainable practices.
— HARRIS

Trump ignores climate change. He promises to dramatically increase fossil fuel drilling, cut vehicle emission efficiencies, abolish the Environmental Protection Agency, and repeal the Clean Water and Clear Air Acts.
— TRUMP

Education

Harris seeks to improve public education for all people, reduce student debt, and increase access to higher education.
— HARRIS

Trump threatens to abolish the Department of Education. He advocates for private education in the image of his failed Trump University.
— TRUMP

Women’s Rights

Harris seeks to protect reproductive rights, equal pay, and policies that support women in the workforce.
— HARRIS

Following the Project 2025 Manifesto, Trump will expand prohibitions on abortion nationwide, with few or no exceptions for rape and incest. Project 2025 also seeks to repeal many federal and state equal protection laws for women, including equal access to workplace opportunities and equal pay.
— TRUMP

Immigration Reform

Harris supports comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and humane treatment of asylum seekers.

“I was the attorney general of a border state. In that job, I walked underground tunnels between the United States and Mexico on that border with law enforcement officers. I went after transnational gangs, drug cartels, and human traffickers that came into our country illegally. I prosecuted them in case after case, and I won.

Our administration worked on the most significant border security bill in decades. Some of the most conservative Republicans in Washington, D.C., supported the bill. Even the Border Patrol endorsed it. It was all set to pass.

But at the last minute, Trump directed his allies in the Senate to vote it down. He tanked the bipartisan deal because he thought it would help him win an election. Which goes to show Donald Trump does not care about border security; he only cares about himself.

And when I am president, I will work to actually solve the problem. As president, I will bring back the border security bill that Donald Trump killed, and I will sign it into law and show Donald Trump what real leadership looks like.”
— HARRIS

Trump has blocked bipartisan immigration reform. Instead, he promises the mass deportation of 20 million immigrants, including those who are here legally and even some who are citizens. He would order the US military to participate in these deportations, in violation of current longstanding federal law.

Support for Ukraine & NATO

Harris supports continued financial and military support for Ukraine in its fight for freedom and democracy against Russia. She also supports America’s strong leadership in NATO.
— HARRIS

Trump would end military and financial support for Ukraine. He would give Putin free rein to occupy Ukraine and other Eastern European nations, including NATO members. Trump said “one of the presidents of a big country” at one point asked him whether the US would still defend the country if they were invaded by Russia even if they “don’t pay.” “No, I would not protect you,” Trump recalled telling that president. “In fact, I would encourage them to do whatever the hell they want. You got to pay.”

So where do we go

from here?

This campaign is about two very different visions for our nation: one focused on the future, the other stuck in the past. We believe in a future where every person has the opportunity to build a business, to own a home, to build intergenerational wealth, a future with affordable health care, affordable childcare, paid leave.

Across our nation, we are witnessing a full-on assault on hard-fought, hard-won freedoms and rights: the freedom to vote, the freedom to be safe from gun violence, the freedom to live without fear of bigotry and hate, the freedom to love who you love openly and with pride, the freedom to learn and acknowledge our true and full history, and the freedom of a woman to make decisions about her own body and not have her government tell her what to do. Ours is a fight for the future and for freedom. Generations of Americans before us led the fight for freedom. And now the baton is in our hands, each and every one of us.
