40 Democratic PCOs elected. Primary election will decide two contests.

Seventeen of the 44 Democratic PCO candidates on May 6, the first day of filing week

An unprecedented number of Democrats filed to be Precinct Committee Officers during filing week that ended Friday afternoon, May 10.

Because 40 filings were unopposed, those candidates were automatically elected. Two Democrats filed as PCO candidates in Birch and Edison precincts. Those candidates will appear on the August 6 primary election ballot, and two will be elected.

All elected PCOs will serve two-year terms that begin on December 1, 2024, and expire on November 30, 2026.

Walla Walla County contains 61 precincts. 19 precincts will not have Democratic PCOs after November 30. After the party holds its reorganization meeting in December, the newly elected party chair may appoint PCOs in the vacant districts.

PCOs are the main point of information and contact for voters in their neighborhoods and within the Democratic Party. PCOs are also a central part of their local Democratic organization. They elect Party leadership, help fill vacancies in elected offices, and lead their precinct caucus every two years.
